The Department of Community Development – Abu Dhabi (DCD) is organising the second episode of its "Social Innovation Talks (SI Talks)" on September 8th under the title "The Role of Social Innovation in Building a Cohesive Family and Community."

The second episode of the on-line series of discussions is aimed at contributing to harnessing Social Innovations to promote awareness around different stages of family development, to achieve effective outputs that contribute to solving social challenges and issues.

The second episode focuses on the importance of family cohesion, and the family relations that play an essential role in protecting the family and children. It will shed light on the various stages of family growth, the role of parents at each stage, family needs and requirements and the necessary psychological preparation for them, enhancing family development towards achieving a healthy and cohesive community by using the latest socially innovative methodologies.

Her Excellency Dr. Layla Abdulaziz Al Hyas, Executive Director of the Social Monitoring & Innovation Sector at DCD, said: “The ‘SI Talks’ series is the region’s platform for discussions on Social Innovation, with the aim of finding innovative solutions to various social issues that are difficult to solve by traditional methods. This will ensure the improvement, effectiveness, and efficiency of the social sector by hosting a gathering of global thought leaders and innovators from around the world and across various disciplines to provide methods and ideas by offering the participants an opportunity to think in different ways that help address the challenges faced by society.”

Her Excellency Al Hyas added: "DCD as the custodian of Abu Dhabi's social sector agenda, aims to improve the quality of services, and establish an integrated and cohesive society in Abu Dhabi, which is in line with the UAE's vision to become a pioneer in social innovation."

Al Hyas pointed out that social innovation is an important element to strengthening family cohesion and it’s one of the DCD’s main ambitions, to works towards a tolerant and inclusive society founded on cohesive families, a decent standard of living for every member of the community, and an active and responsible community, which will reflect positively in achieving the nation’s vision of providing a dignified life for everyone in Abu Dhabi.

Dr. Heba Jamal Hariri, Psychologist, Researcher and Assistant Professor at the University of Jeddah – KSA, will present in the second virtual episode of "SI Talks". She will shed light on the stages of family growth, the role of parents at each stage, and discuss the essential role of social innovation in building a healthy and cohesive community.

Additionally, Dr. Hariri will highlight the importance of psychological preparation in the family relations which play an essential role in protecting the family and children from negative behaviour and promoting social innovation in the different stages of family development, from marriage, having children and the adolescence phase, to the stage of their independence and adulthood.
